Chapter 11
Odesha hid in the large clothing stall in the marketplace, hoping to catch her prey. She had found its weakness. She had already watched its movements. She heard the quiet thud of soft-soled feet coming towards her, the soft grunt of a question from the front of the stall, and knew it was time to spring her trap.
A soft, distressed gasp reached her. She leapt out, brandishing her weapon fiercely when her prey turned to her in astonishment.
âI need your help, Halana!â declared Odesha brazenly, hoping they hadnât attracted too much attention yet from the other stalls in the marketplace. The soft blue cloth Halana lovingly gazed at every day sat securely in Odesha's arms. The perfect bait to lure her in.
Halanaâs eyes widened. She pointed towards Odesha and shouted, âFurless creature speak?!â
With a sigh, Odesha muttered, âYes, furless creature speaks.â She cleared her throat, motioning to herself, holding tight to the fabric. She clarified, âI'm happy to meet you. My name is Odesha.â
Over the last couple of days her grasp of the language had greatly improved. Fanni had explained to Odesha she was under Dekâs protection, so she had access to anything in the marketplace. That was when her plan formed.
Odesha gestured back to the cloth, âThis soft blue cloth, itâs perfect, yes? Perfect for Ranna with someone special.â
Halana whimpered in distress, the pain in her eyes intensifying.
Odesha gently moved closer to the skittish yeti. She didnât want to frighten her away. She whispered, âI would like to give it to you.â
Halanaâs body stiffened as her head shot up, looking questioningly into her eyes. Odesha nodded firmly, hoping Halana saw her sincerity. She repeated, âYes, I will give this to you if you promise to help me.â
Halana's face turned suspicious. âWhy furless creature need help?â
Her face turned a soft pink, Odesha replied slowly, putting emphasize on her name, âOdesha would like to learn how to dance for Ranna.â
Halana, stunned at the request, looked from the cloth to Odesha, making her decision. âSashi wonât like.â The sides of Halana's lips twitched with a repressed smile. Sashi didn't like much, but this would send her into a rage unlike anything the tribe had ever seen.
Odesha agreed seriously, âNo, Sashi definitely wonât like. Could you help me learn by next Ranna?â
Halana reached out, running her hairy fingers down the soft cloth lovingly. It was what she had dreamed she would wear during Ranna to Boni. But that was a forgotten dream. Maybe just having the cloth would be enough. She whispered, âYes. Halana help Odesha Ranna next.â
Odesha smiled, triumphant. She handed over the soft cloth to its new owner happily. She had captured her prey.
Let the lessons begin.
